Medical back translation and proofreading: an independent second check.
Medical back translation and proofreading by medical linguists, for regulatory submissions, ethics committees and high-risk patient-facing text.
Proofreading
A medical linguist reviews an existing translation, whether it was done by us, in-house or by another vendor, for accuracy, terminology and readability.
Back translation
A separate linguist translates the document back into the source language, so non-native reviewers, ethics committees or regulators can check that the meaning held.
When you need it
- Before a regulatory submission
- For ethics committees reviewing trial documents
- For high-risk patient-facing text
- To check another vendor's work
How it works
You send the source and the translation, and tell us what the check is for.
An independent medical linguist proofreads or back-translates the text.
You receive the corrected translation or the back translation, with any differences in meaning noted for your reviewers.
Frequently asked questions
What is the difference between back translation and forward translation?
Forward translation turns the source into the target language. Back translation, done by a different linguist who has not seen the source, turns that translation back into the source language so reviewers can compare meaning.
Can you check translations done by another vendor?
Yes. Our medical linguists proofread existing translations whoever produced them, for accuracy, terminology and readability.
Who does the back translation?
A separate linguist from the one who produced the forward translation, so the check is independent.
